I have worked with a variety of content management systems. I have also done some voluntarily work to create the website for international students society of Hokkaido university and Pakistan students association in Japan. I have worked on several e commerce websites of small to medium scale.

Recently, I have been studying the Google’s android OS. Even though I will not call myself an expert on android, I feel confident that I can use my knowledge of Java to program for android OS.

Campus Ambassador at Sun Microsystems, Tokyo, Japan (Oct 2008 – Feb 2010):

Sun Microsystems is known as developers of Java. In August 2008 they asked for applications for Sun Campus Ambassador program. Out of many applications from our University, I was the only one selected. It was a great opportunity to work with Sun Microsystems until its merger with Oracle. My key achievements during this tenure include:

  • Holding seminars on Sun and Open source technologies once every month at my university (i.e. Hokkaido University, Sapporo, JAPAN).
  • Leading the open source university meet up (OSUM) group at the university.
  • Promoting open source software’s and helping students install them.

Design Engineer at CARE, Islamabad, Pakistan (June 2003 – March 2005)

CARE stands for Center for Advanced Research in Engineering. It is a leading IT and research company based in Islamabad, Pakistan. With over 100 employees and 15 PhDs they have the unique experience in the area of circuit design, FPGAs, and signal processing. My job as a design engineer included the following responsibilities

  • Design and development of image matching system and its implementation on DSPs and FPGAs.
  • GIS based antitheft vehicle tracking system using GSM/GPRS and VHF as redundant communication channels. Development of central monitoring center was also part of the project.

RA & TA at Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan (Spring 2008, Spring 2009, Fall 2010)

I assisted Dr. Masaharu Munetomo in his lectures on evolutionary algorithms. Dr. Munetomo is also my supervisor for Masters and PhD. My responsibilities included:

  • Assisting my professor with practice workshops.
  • Helping the students in programming, debugging and conceptual problems.

I also worked as a teaching assistant in CASE (Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering), Islamabad, Pakistan for around two years (Fall 2003 – Spring 2005) as a part time job. I assisted Dr. Imtiaz A. Taj with his lectures on computer vision, pattern recognition and digital image processing. My responsibilities as a TA include: making and marking of assignments and exams, holding workshops on image processing and teaching the basic techniques to the students.

Internships at ET & RIMS, Islamabad, Pakistan (Summer 2002)

I have done several internships during my Bachelor studies. Out of these the two most challenging ones were the internships I did at ET (Enabling Technologies) and RIMS (Remote Intelligence Monitoring Systems). Both the companies were considered to be top research companies in Islamabad at that time. My achievements during the internships included:

  • Testing and verification of a compiler for a VLIW DSP engine.
  • Development of an automatic compiler tester application.
  • Analysis of the Deja GNU test cases to evaluate compiler performance.
  • Speed detection and license plate number recognition using a video of cars from a consumer grade high resolution video camera.
